Pen yr Enfys is a registered Charity working with people with problem alcohol/substance use, which includes some of societies most vulnerable and socially excluded individuals.
Pen yr Enfys is a Welsh word that literally translates as “head of the rainbow”, but actually means “Rainbows End”. The name was chosen by a service user in a competition we held when it was decided to change our name from South Glamorgan Council on Alcohol. He felt it vividly described how difficult it was to find solutions that would bring about change to his then lifestyle, something we were able to assist him with.
Pen yr Enfys has worked in this field with men and women of all ages since its founding in the mid 1960’s. It began life as the Cardiff and District Council on Alcoholism, this eventually split into three geographical groups, one of which was the South Glamorgan Council on Alcoholism, which, as public attitudes changed, became South Glamorgan Council on Alcohol . Finally, in 2004 we changed the name to a more in keeping and relevant Pen yr Enfys.
